Louse genetics offer clues on human migrations

Thursday, February 28, 2013

A new genetic analysis of human lice from across the world sheds light on the global spread of these parasites, their potential for disease transmission and insecticide resistance. The results are published February 27 in the open access journal PLOS ONE by Marina S. Ascunce and colleagues from the Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida.

Lice have been constant travel companions for humans ever since they left Africa and began colonizing other parts of the world. Since they have evolved along with humans, the geographic distribution of lice can reveal patterns of human migrations.

In the present research, the authors used available genomic data from human lice to identify genetic markers that can be used to determine which louse populations bred with one another. Their results improve our understanding of how lice have evolved resistance to insecticides, and can help improve methods of controlling these pests. These genetic markers can also be used to understand the differences between head and clothing lice, since the latter are capable of transmitting deadly bacterial diseases.

The authors suggest that these genetic markers may also reveal the tracks of human migrations across the globe, and can be used to test ideas about human evolution.

Americans Earn More Than Their Parents (With A Caveat), Study Says

Most Americans are earning more money than their parents, according to a new study from Pew's Economic Mobility Project. But those gains don't tell the whole picture.

Let's start with the good news. The Pew Charitable Trust study looked at actual pairs of children and parents. Around age 40, 83 percent of the children were earning at least a thousand bucks more than their parents were when they were 40.

"Economic growth over the last generation really has translated into income increases for many Americans," says Erin Currier, who directs Pew's economic mobility work.

Having a four-year degree made you more likely to exceed your parents' income, according to the study. And African-Americans tended to be less likely to out-earn their forebears. The economic mobility study also looked at wealth, finding that about half of Americans had banked at least $5,000 more than their parents had at the same age.

But there's bad news in this story. The Pew study only looked at absolute dollar gains in income and wealth. It did not look at where people stand on the economic ladder, or how that compares with their parents, Currier says.

"Sometimes you can see these big gains what look to be big gains," she says. "But they don't necessarily help a person escape the economic place in which they began."

If you're earning $1,000 more than your parents, but your parents only earned $15,000 a year, that's not going to escalate you into the middle class what we call social mobility.

Another factor: The Pew study looked at entire households. These days, it often takes two incomes to surpass the one salary that was enough for the younger generation's parents. While 93 percent of dual-earner families made at least $1,000 more than their parents, 77 percent of single-earner families did so.

Gregory Clark, an economics professor at the University of California, Davis, who studies social mobility, says he doesn't think people care about how much more they're earning than their parents. What matters, he says, is where your income ranks compared with other people in society.

"We can keep on producing statistics," he says, "but it's not going to give us any insight into how to change social mobility, and what the real mechanisms of social mobility are."

But on the bright side, at least most of us aren't earning less than our parents.

Martha Stewart in middle of giant retail tug-of-war

Macy's Chief Executive Terry Lundgren said he was shocked when Martha Stewart told him in 2011 that she was starting a new alliance with rival J.C. Penney Co.

Lundgren, testifying on Monday in the trial of two Macy's lawsuits over the alliance, said Stewart told him of the deal the night before J.C. Penney announced it. He said he was so appalled he hung up on her.

"I was completely shocked and blown away," Lundgren said. "I was literally sick to my stomach."

J.C. Penney announced on December 7, 2011, that it would launch Martha Stewart boutiques in about 700 of its department stores in 2013. It also bought 17 percent of her company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia .

Macy's, which has its own deal with Martha Stewart, sued her company in January 2012 for breach of contract, and later sued J.C. Penney as well. Macy's says it has the exclusive right to sell Martha Stewart products in certain product categories, including cookware and bedding.

The two cases were consolidated for a non-jury trial before Justice Jeffrey Oing in New York state court in Manhattan.

Lundgren, 60, said Stewart sounded like she was reading from a document prepared by lawyers when they spoke, and that he cut off the conversation when the home goods doyenne claimed her deal with J.C. Penney would be good for Macy's.

"I think that's when I hung up," said Lundgren. "The thought this was going to be good for Macy's was so far from anything I could comprehend."

Lundgren said that at the time he considered Stewart a friend, and he has not spoken to her since.

Macy's is still committed to the business relationship it developed with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, however. The Martha Stewart brand at Macy's grew 8 percent last year, growth that is twice that of Macy's as a whole, Lundgren said.

"This is an extremely important brand and we are going to continue to highlight the brand in our stores," Lundgren testified.

Macy's built Martha Stewart into its No. 1 home brand after Stewart came out of prison in 2005 after serving time for lying about a stock sale.

J.C. Penney CEO Ron Johnson is scheduled to take the stand on Friday. Martha Stewart also is expected to testify, but it is unclear when.

Martha Stewart shops in J.C. Penney stores, set to open in May, are the centerpiece of an improved home goods section that Johnson has called crucial to returning Penney to growth.

The cases are Macy's Inc. v Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., 650297/2012, and Macy's Inc. v J.C. Penney Corp., 652861/2012, New York State Supreme Court, New York County.

HP Slate 7 hands-on (update: video)

Well, this might just be the biggest news to come out of Mobile World Congress. Long after discontinuing the TouchPad (and the rest of its mobile devices, for that matter) HP is back with a new tablet. This time, though, it runs not webOS, but an old safety: Android. Interestingly, though, HP is returning to the tablet space not with a high-end flagship, but a lower-end device priced to sell. The Slate 7 is priced at $169, with modest specs that include a dual-core A9 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage, a 7-inch, 1,024 x 600 display and dual 3MP / VGA cameras. All that said, it could be worth a second look when it goes on sale in April. Meet us past the break to see what we mean.

Notre Dame football: Eifert shines in Combine tests

On a day when former Notre Dame teammate Manti Te'o made headlines off the field, tight end Tyler Eifert made waves on it.

The Irish All-American was consistently among the leaders in his position group in all of the physical testing Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

"I think with the tight ends, the day belonged to Tyler Eifert," analyst Mike Mayock said during the NFL Network's telecast of the event on Saturday.

He added that the 6-foot-5 1/2, 250-pound Eifert added to his chances of being a first-round draft choice. The NFL Draft is set for April 25-27 in New York.

Eifert had the fourth-fastest time in the 40-yard dash (4.68 seconds) among the tight end prospects and tied for third in his position group with 22 reps at 225 pounds in the bench press. By comparison, Alabama offensive tackle D.J. Fluker, a projected first-rounder, did 21 reps.

Eifert had the best time among tight ends in the three-cone drill (6.92 seconds); was second in the vertical leap (35.5 inches), standing broad jump (11 feet, 11 inches) and the 60-yard shuttle; and third in the 20-yard shuttle (4.32 seconds). His numbers, in all but one category, topped another high-profiled tight end prospect, Zach Ertz, of Stanford.

Eifert is one of eight Notre Dame players who were invited to this year's combine, the 27th annual. Offensive linemen, tight ends and special teams players went through the physical testing Saturday.

Former Irish running backs Cierre Wood and Theo Riddick move into the spotlight Sunday, when the running backs and wide receivers take their turns.

Te'o, who Saturday addressed the girlfriend hoax with the media, will have his shot on the field on Monday.

Center Braxston Cave, a weightroom warrior, did not participate in the bench press on Saturday but performed in most of the other drills. The Penn High product's time in the 40 was 5.33 seconds. Fluker ran a 5.31.

Players who were not invited to the combine or those who want to improve their combine performances will have that chance at Notre Dame's Pro Day, March 26 at the Loftus Center.

Google hopes for reinforcements in social network battle

Google is promising businesses greater returns on advertising if they sign up to its social network, in a fresh bid to take on rivals Facebook and Twitter.

The internet search giant has been emailing advertisers boasting that businesses with Google+ pages see a 5-10 per cent rise in click-throughs when linked with its AdWord campaigns. These display adverts on Google when users search for specific words.

Google also features businesses' Google+ pages prominently on the right hand side of search results. These also show recent posts on the page and the number of people who have given a "+1" ? the equivalent of Facebook's "like" button ? to those brands.

Insiders suspect the push by executive chairman Eric Schmidt to sign up companies to the social network, launched in November 2011, is a response to innovations from Twitter and Facebook.

Twitter last week introduced a system allowing businesses to tailor advertising campaigns on the microblogging site and Facebook last month unveiled Graph Search, a feature allowing users to search all the connections across the site.

Having more businesses on Google+ could strengthen the company's commercial clout as it would allow it to build up more detailed pictures of the brands and businesses users like through the +1 feature.

But one advertiser accused Google of "hacking its own system" to ensure the social network's success. When users search on the site, those brands or businesses on the social network are given greater presence, raising questions over whether Google is abusing its power.

It sparked a similar controversy last September when it launched its own car insurance comparison site. Google is also talking to music labels about launching a streaming service, so it is less reliant on advertising.

GOP senators urge Obama to pull Hagel nomination

Republican Chuck Hagel, President Obama's choice for Defense Secretary, testifies before the Senate Armed Services??Fifteen Republican senators, including potential 2016 presidential contender Marco Rubio, urged President Barack Obama in a letter released Thursday to withdraw Chuck Hagel's nomination as defense secretary.

?While we respect Senator Hagel?s honorable military service, in the interest of national security, we respectfully request that you withdraw his nomination,? the lawmakers, led by Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas, wrote in the letter.

The White House last week denounced Senate Republicans? unprecedented filibuster of the Hagel?nomination (no Cabinet-level post dealing with national security had ever before faced that stalling tactic). In the letter, the lawmakers argued in effect that this was the Republican former senator's own fault.

?It would be unprecedented for a Secretary of Defense to take office without a broad base of bipartisan support and confidence needed to serve effectively in this critical position,? they added.

In addition to Rubio and Cornyn, Republican Senators James Inhofe, Lindsey Graham, Roger Wicker, David Vitter, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Pat Toomey, Dan Coats, Ron Johnson, James Risch, John Barrasso, Tom Coburn and Rick Scott signed the letter. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment but has flatly dismissed similar calls in the past, noting that Hagel has more than the 51 votes needed for confirmation.

In the letter the senators also denounced Hagel?s ?erratic record and myriad conversions on key national security issues? and openly doubted ?his basic competence to meet the substantial demand of the office.?

They charged that he ?proclaimed the legitimacy of the current regime in Tehran.? During his wobbly confirmation hearing performance, Hagel had said America?s allies consider that regime ?an elected, legitimate government, whether we agree or not.?

They also accused Hagel of showing ?a seeming ambivalence about whether containment or prevention is the best approach, which gives us great concern.?

In the hearing, Hagel mistakenly broke with Obama?s policy of preventing Iran from develop nuclear weapons and suggested he favored ?containment? instead. He tried to correct himself after being handed a note by an aide, but it was ultimately Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (M-Mich.) who fixed the gaffe. Hagel also struggled to explain his past opposition to imposing unilateral economic sanctions on Iran.

?If Senator Hagel becomes Secretary of Defense, the military option will have near zero credibility,? the senators said in the letter. ?This sends a dangerous message to the regime in Tehran, as it seeks to obtain the means necessary to harm both the United States and Israel.? (There?s another possibility: Maybe Hagel means war with Iran is actually more likely.)

AIG fourth quarter operating results beat expectations

(Reuters) - Insurer American International Group Inc reported fourth-quarter results that beat Wall Street expectations, although Chief Executive Robert Benmosche said some employee bonuses will be smaller this year because the company did not meet all of its performance targets.

Overall, the company reported a $4 billion (2.6 billion pounds) loss on Thursday, due mainly to the sale of aircraft leasing business, ILFC, as well as losses incurred from Superstorm Sandy.

But AIG's underlying business trends - with stronger operating earnings in its life insurance business, better underwriting margins in its property and casualty business and higher investment income - helped lift operating earnings above what analysts expected.

"It looks pretty good," Sandler O'Neill analyst Paul Newsome said of AIG's earnings report.

"Relative to what I was looking for, the life insurance business did better than expected and some of the noncore businesses - like direct investment, and the capital markets operation, which aren't necessarily the highest-quality earnings - also reported bigger gains than I expected."

In after-hours trading AIG shares rose 4.2 percent, to $38.84.

Last year marked an important milestone for the insurance group, which was rescued by U.S. taxpayers in 2008 with a bailout that eventually exceeded $180 billion. The U.S. government, which took a stake in the insurer in exchange for the bailout, exited nearly its entire investment in the company in 2012.

The Treasury Department still holds warrants to purchase about 2.7 million shares, but sold the remainder of its common stock last quarter. The Federal Reserve also sold off its holdings in an AIG-bailout related vehicle in 2012.

The bailout exit lifted some uncertainty for investors and AIG replaced Apple Inc in the fourth quarter as the hedge fund industry's favourite stock.

AIG came under enormous public pressure to slash bonuses while taxpayers were supporting the company. As recently as last month, the watchdog office of the Treasury Department's bailout program said the agency had approved excessive pay for executives at bailed-out companies - including AIG - even in 2012.

In a memo to employees, Benmosche called the fourth quarter a "historic" one for the company, but also said some bonuses will be smaller this year because of weak performance.

"We still have work to do, and we didn't meet all our business goals in 2012, which will mean some short-term incentive pools will be smaller this year than last year," he said in the memo, which was obtained by Reuters.

While the company exceeded outsiders' expectations, AIG management might have had more aggressive performance targets internally, Newsome said. For instance, low-interest rates have been crimping life-insurance profits industry-wide for some time, leading analysts and investors to expect less from the business.

"Maybe AIG did better than Wall Street expected, but not as good as they wanted," he said.

AIG's life-insurance business reported a 20 percent jump in after-tax operating income last quarter. AIG attributed the improvement to its efforts to "actively manage spread income."

Its direct investment book reported after-tax operating income of $509 million, while the capital-markets operation reported $300 million in after-tax operating income. A year ago those operations reported an after-tax loss of $27 million and after-tax income of $46 million, respectively.

In property and casualty, AIG reported an after-tax operating loss of $945 million, due to the Sandy losses. However, the company cited stronger underwriting margins in the business, which Newsome said was a positive sign.

Overall, AIG posted a net loss of $4 billion, or $2.68 per share, for the period, compared with a year-earlier profit of $21.5 billion, or $11.31 per share.

On an operating basis, the company earned $290 million, or 20 cents per share. The company recorded after-tax losses of $1.3 billion in the quarter from Superstorm Sandy.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S on average expected a loss of 8 cents per share in the quarter.

How you can get your hands on Google Glass early (updated with new UI video)

How you can get your hands on Google Glass

So when can you get your very own slice of Google future? Perhaps sooner than you thought. The company's just outlined a competition that will put its Glass device in the hands of non-developer types. Using Twitter or Google+, you'll need to outline what you would do if you had the device -- we're guessing they want to see some big ideas. Applications need to be less than 50 words and tagged with #ifihadglass. Media-wise, you can include photos and even a short video to support your application. Alas, for now at least, the process is only for those over 18 and is currently US-only. The deadline is February 27th and winners will be made a Glass Explorer -- quite the title. The best 8,000 applicants will still have to preorder their own Glass Explorer Edition ($1,500 plus tax) but there'll be special pick-up sessions held in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Until then, Google's offered up a whole new gallery of images to help you imagine how you might look with its high-tech wearable.

Update: Google's crafted a meatier video for the UI within Glass. We've embedded it after the break, but it better outlines how image capture, translation, directions, voice-controlled messages and (naturally) web searches are likely to behave on those frames.

Does the Higgs Boson Reveal Our Universe's Doomsday?

He said the parameters for our universe, including the Higgs mass value as well as the mass of another subatomic particle known as the top quark, suggest that we're just at the edge of stability, in a "metastable" state. Physicists have been contemplating such a possibility for more than 30 years. Back in 1982, physicists Michael Turner and Frank Wilczek wrote in Nature that "without warning, a bubble of true vacuum could nucleate somewhere in the universe and move outwards at the speed of light, and before we realized what swept by us our protons would decay away."

    These seem to imply:
    1. a Higgs boson is a metastable state, would decay in top quark
    2. the half-life of this metastable state is billions of years
    3. the moment even a single such decay event happens, the other Higgs bosons around would "sense" this and spontaneously decay as well, in a sort of chain reaction happening in a Laser medium

If assumption 3 is valid, then 1. and 2. say it can happen any time (with very low probability, but not impossible)

But, I wonder, what exactly suggest that 3. is a valid a

A new marriage penalty for the rich

New Medicare payroll tax could cost high income couples as much as $1,350 in extra tax. But some couples will get a tax break.

Shantel Jackson, the fiancee of undefeated welterweight boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. of the U.S., shows her engagement ring in Las Vegas in 2011. High-income married couples will get hit with a new 'marriage penalty' this year, except those who have a nonworking spouse.

The extra levy affects only a few high-income couples but in very different ways. Lucky couples will collect marriage bonuses of up to $450. But those less fortunate?if anyone making $250,000 can be considered less fortunate?will incur marriage penalties of as much as $1,350 in additional Medicare tax.

The culprit? The income thresholds for paying the tax. The new levy equals 0.9 percent of wages above unindexed thresholds?$200,000 for singles and $250,000 for married couples. Because the threshold for couples is less than double that for singles, the tax imposes a marriage penalty on couples with two high earners but gives a bonus to those with a high earner and a low- or non-earner.

Consider the simplest case of a penalty: each spouse earns $200,000. If they weren?t married, they wouldn?t owe the new tax because their separate earnings don?t exceed the singles threshold. As a married couple, their $400,000 combined earnings are $150,000 over the threshold for couples and they owe 0.9 percent of that in tax?$1,350.

The penalty stays the same if their earnings grow. As long as each has earnings above $200,000, they?ll pay $1,350 more each year. Marriage takes away $150,000 of the total exclusion the tax provides for two single workers.

Vancouver police get health advice from doctors - Northwest - The ...

VANCOUVER, Wash. ? Vancouver police officers and Clark County sheriff's deputies are working with doctors at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland to improve their health.

The officers replaced doughnuts with fruit and veggies in their diets, increased their physical activity and were working on stress reduction, The Columbian ( http://is.gd/gLIRMg) reported in Sunday's newspaper.

The changes are part of a $3 million four-year health study led by Dr. Kerry Kuehl, who has enlisted 130 deputies from the Clark County Sheriff's Office and 80 officers from the Vancouver Police Department, along with two law enforcement agencies in Oregon.

Over the next few years, Kuehl hopes to expand the program to police departments across the country.

The first step was stress and fitness tests of all the officers in the study.

About 21 to 25 percent of people in the general population have metabolic syndrome, a combination of conditions including high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels, diabetes, excess body fat and abnormal cholesterol levels. In law enforcement, 35 percent have metabolic syndrome, Kuehl said.

Disrupted sleep patterns and hyper vigilance from always being on guard contribute to these conditions.

Some of the goals set for officers in the study included minimum requirements for daily fruit and vegetable servings and physical activity, hours of sleep, quitting tobacco use and reducing alcohol intake.

About once a week, teams of four to six officers got together before or after work to lead their own 45-minute workshops on nutrition, fitness and stress management.

Teamwork and healthy competition improved sleep behaviors, fatigue and diet among participants. Kuehl is encouraged by the results and plans to use this year to test its durability and see if officers will stick with their nutrition and fitness goals.

Clark County Sheriff Garry Lucas and former Vancouver Police Chief Cliff Cook supported the program, but their officers did not receive any incentives or bonuses for participating. They could participate free of charge.

"This isn't easy. We can't do it without the participation of law enforcement officers," Kuehl said.

Keuhl will release more data after presenting his six-month findings at the 34th annual Society of Behavioral Medicine meeting March 23 in San Francisco.

Reenergize Negotiations for Concluding India-GCC FTA Talks: Anand Sharma

The Union Minister for Commerce, Industry & Textiles Shri Anand Sharma, in a bilateral meeting with Ms. Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, UAE, in Dubai today, said that despite of the fact that UAE is India?s top partner amongst the GCC countries and the second largest trading partner for India in the world after China, ?the bilateral trade does not reflect the full potential and can be further exploited to mutual advantage of both the countries.? Shri Sharma conveyed to Ms. Qasimi that UAE should take the lead in ?reenergizing the negotiations for concluding the India-GCC FTA talks?, which have stalled for a while.

Shri Sharma was also concerned of the matter that although the bilateral trade between the two regions has grown tremendously, the capital flow between the regions has remained miniscule. Speaking on the same issue, Shri Sharma emphasized the opportunities for increased investments from UAE in India, especially in infrastructure sector such as power and utilities, roads and highways, ports, aviation, telecommunications and urban infrastructure. He also assured that ?India is committed to strengthening and expanding cooperation with UAE in other sectors such as construction, downstream products in the petroleum and natural gas sector, agriculture and food processing, science & technology, renewable energy, IT, education, training, health and financial services.?

Highlighting the fact that India is a major exporter of textiles, Shri Sharma also hoped that the UAE Government would give a special concessional treatment to textile imports from India.

Shri Sharma also expressed the desire of Indian companies to invest in UAE in energy intensive manufacturing, infrastructure, services, tourism and hospitality, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, financial services, agro-based value chain and education. Along with this, Shri Sharma conveyed to the UAE Minister India?s desire to ?take part in UAE?s projects in the oil, railways, construction and other sectors.?

Azarenka beats Williams to win Qatar Open

(AP) ? Defending champion Victoria Azarenka stunned Serena Williams 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-3 to win the Qatar Open on Sunday, earning her 16th title and ending a 10-match losing streak against the American.

Azarenka will give up the No. 1 ranking to the second-ranked Williams on Monday but extended her current winning streak to 14 matches, including her second Australian Open title. More importantly, she may have turned around what has been a one-sided rivalry against Williams. Azarenka had not beaten Williams since 2009 in Miami, and had a 1-11 record against her going into Sunday's final.

Azarenka broke to go up 2-1 when an erratic Williams hit one of her four double-faults, but the American even things out after eight games. Williams then won four straight points in the tiebreaker to lead 6-5, but the Belarusian saved a set point and won it herself with a great return.

Williams dominated the second set with her powerful serve and forehand. Azarenka appeared anxious in the third, falling behind 0-30 but then won the game and jumped to a 3-0. lead. She extended it to 5-2 lead before Williams hit a great crosscourt backhand to make it 5-3 to stay in the match. But serving for the match, Azarenka went up 40-0 and clinched the victory when Williams hit a forehand wide.

"I just wanted to fight and give it my best, give myself every opportunity I can," Azarenka said. "I started with love-30 (in the third) and I was like, 'You have to keep it together. You have to do something.' Serena was on a roll ... so I had to really step up my game. I'm really glad I could turn it around and stay tough."

Azarenka needs to reach the final in Dubai to have a chance at returning to the top spot. If Williams reaches the final next week, Azarenka would need to beat her in the title match to return to No. 1.

Flayvour360: Driver kills 3 Women From Same Family Walking ...

A drunk driver allegedly killed three women from the same family who were walking home from a baby shower after he ploughed his car into them.
Anthony Lewis Sanchez, 40, from Buena Park, Calif., is accused of smashing his Honda Civic into Carmen Mendoza, 56, her daughter, Sheyla Mendoza, 21, and her niece Stephanie Henriquez, also 21, at 11 p.m. on Saturday evening.
Witnesses said the trio had ?no chance of survival? as Sanchez?s vehicle went ?straight into them? on South Western Ave. in Anaheim.
Two of the women were thrown through the car?s windshield, said Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn.
Sheyla Mendoza was pronounced dead at the scene, while Carmen Mendoza and Henriquez died later at UC Irvine Medical Center.
Sanchez and his female passenger were taken to the hospital with minor facial injuries.

More than 100 gathered at a memorial site where three Anaheim women were struck and killed around 11 p.m. Saturday. Buena Park resident Anthony Lewis Sanchez, 40, is under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn said.

Orange County District Attorney spokesman Farrah Emami said: ?The defendant is accused of crashing into these three victims, and he didn?t stop.
?He barely hit his brakes, and he barely slowed down at all.?
Sanchez has been charged with three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter causing death with gross negligence.
He faces up to 12 years in a state prison if convicted.
Evelyn Morales, whose baby shower the women were at before the tragedy, said she was ?devastated? by the news.
She said: ?We?re trying to work with it. It?s tough, especially with three losses.?
Police revealed that Sanchez, who is registered as a truck driver, was charged in 2006 with possession of methamphetamine.
The charge was dismissed after he completed a drug-treatment program. He was also busted in 1997 for possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
