Bob Mansfield, one of Apple's senior vice presidents, is no longer part of Apple's executive team, Apple said in a statement to AllThingsD and other outlets.

Apple says Mansfield will still continue to work at the company on "special projects."

Several Apple blogs picked up on the move last night when Mansfield disappeared from the company's executive bios page.

Mansfield attempted to retire from Apple last year, but was brought back a few months later to work as the senior vice president of technologies, where he focused on hardware. He's not scheduled to leave the company until at least the end of 2014.

Apple hasn't elaborated on Mansfield's new role, so it's tough to tell what's going on. It's possible this exit from the exec team is in preparation for his retirement next year. In the meantime, Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac has reported Mansfield is on the team making the rumored iWatch, a wrist computer that will supposedly be packed with body sensors and connect to your iPhone.
