Herbal View: St. John's Wort, Patient Education

It seems to me that there are times when certain topics or situations become more important than others, more vital about which to communicate, and more crucial to know all the details.? Depression and the use of St. John?s Wort by patients would be two of those topics, in my humble opinion.

Based on the information about St. John?s Wort found here and here, nurses and other healthcare providers should be aware of the numerous drug interactions between St. John?s Wort and many commonly prescribed medications.

Be sure to refer back to the lists of questions and discussion that further expand the scope of knowledge for both the nurse and patient.

Of course, patient privacy and the choices? that one would make is ultimately up to the individual. Nurses can fulfill their role by making sure patients know the facts, have access to information, and feel like their question and concerns can be discussed openly.
